For churches

What is in it for our church?

Having an ICONZ ministry can bring new life to your church, with kids coming in during the week as well as new children for your Sunday Children’s Ministry programme.

ICONZ will result in non-churched people wanting to become involved in the family life of your church. We have seen new opportunities develop in tandem with ICONZ such as Single-Mum coffee times whilst boys are at ICONZ.

ICONZ definitely doesn’t just reach boys - it gives men an opportunity to grow together in running the Ministry and it makes a huge difference in the lives of the families that we get to meet through their boys being part of ICONZ.

Schools are noticing the difference in communities with ICONZ. Many open their doors to let groups run, and others are more than happy to allow you to promote the ministry in assemblies. How better to establish a relationship with your local school than to offer them a bunch of quality male role-models and a top-notch life-skills programme!?

ICONZ boys get into all sorts of interesting, challenging and exciting activities. Many of these will cultivate life-long interests, experiences, adventures, hobbies or crafts because of their initial experiences at ICONZ.

It is our primary and fundamental aim in ICONZ that kids commence their journey and commitment to Jesus Christ through their involvement with our Ministry.

What part does our Church play?

Your church plays a very important role in the ongoing life of an ICONZ unit. What your church does will have a major impact on the ICONZ unit’s effectiveness within your community and ultimately the bringing of more families into your church. It is our desire to see ICONZ as one of the key and vital outreach ministries within your church.

It is important to understand that the ICONZ Unit attached to your church remains an integral part of your church in the same way that your Children’s ministry, Women’s ministry and other church activities are. This is fostered through the following:

  • An ICONZ Unit can only operate as a part of a church. It belongs to your church not the National ICONZ organisation.
  • Your Minister/Pastor/Vicar or an appointed layperson will be the Chaplain of the ICONZ unit.
  • The ICONZ unit should be encouraged to participate as a group at a church service at least once a year. This helps to raise the profile of ICONZ in your congregation.

Your church :

  • Provides prayer support.
  • Appoints leaders and encourages them to take advantage of the training offered by the National ICONZ organisation and possibly other external training opportunities.
  • Retains control of the ICONZ unit’s finances and assets.
  • Regularly reviews the performance of your ICONZ unit.

Your church is responsible for:

  • Arranging or providing suitable premises.
  • Ensuring adequate leadership. ICONZ Units require a minimum of three leaders per unit.
  • Approving the Christian Education programme
  • Ensuring that the ICONZ unit has adequate insurance on any assets and also Public Liability. As ICONZ belongs to your church it should be included in the insurance programme arranged by your church. All Insurances for ICONZ are the responsibility of the hosting church.
  • Ensuring that all Leaders have completed the Registration process.
